Crescent Moon Ranch is located in Terrebonne, Oregon, just minutes north of Bend in the high desert of Central Oregon. (We moved from San Juan Island in Washington state.) We specialize in alpaca color and quality. Our forte is black and grey, but we have outstanding huacaya alpacas for sale in all colors!

We're Joe and Diane Nelson and we own CMR. We retired from the daily grind of the restaurant business and moved to the "moon" to raise alpacas. Anticipating a nice quiet retirement with lots of leisure time, our alpaca business has become more and more involved and we wouldn't have it any other way. From the joy of new crias, to the excitement of the shows, our life with alpacas is more rewarding than we ever dreamed it would be!

PARADE OF CHAMPIONS SALE

See our entries on our News page. Two outstanding males and eighteen incredible females! Several gals are already bred, others come with your choice of breedings, and there's a 3-in-1 offer you won't want to miss!

We now dedicate all our efforts to CMR and the well being and improvement of the World's Finest Livestock. As we go forward we believe today's wise breeding choices will see the North American breed stock as the finest in the world with the most diversity.

Accoyo Peruvian Legacy
After several years of sending our females off for outside breedings, we felt we had the genetic diversity to acquire some great studs. That started with the purchase of half interest in Caballero Andante. We then acquired 4Peruvian Legacy 6016 (featured to the left). Legacy is a magnificent male, and is the 2002 AAA Futurity Herdsire of the Year! He is true in all his phenotypical characteristics and proving himself with his strong genotype.

We then added Accoyo Peruvian Elite, Peruvian Chaccu, and Snowmass Black-N-Gold. Combine them with the development of some of our own males, including eight time Gray Color Champion, Rayo del Sol, and we have one of the finest herdsire stables in the country.

As you explore our site you'll see more of these great males and their accomplishments. If you'd like to do that personally, we invite you to join us on the ranch for a hands-on inspection.

During the summer of 2007 we made the very tough decision to discontinue the sale of outside breedings. Herd health and the lack of appropriate quarantine room were the two considerations we deliberated over. Because of that decision, the dispersal of our genetics will now be through the sale of bred females (see Female Alpacas for Sale, and Special Offers) or males (see Herdsires & Jr Herdsires for Sale) online and at major auctions.

Not all of our "sale animals" are online. You are welcome to email or call with questions/requests, and we'll let you know who else is available that might be the exact alpaca you are seeking.

REALLY BIG NEWS

We are thrilled to announce our purchase of the very outstanding Sunset Accoyos herd of Bettsy and Wally Preble, here in Oregon. The Prebles have for some years been breeding to the best males in Western Oregon (and some of the absolute best in the country) with an emphasis on Full and Hemi-Accoyo. Names like Elite, Victor, Hemingway, Accoyo Ferrari, El Nino, Caligula, Pachacuti, The Godfather, Victor's Valedar, Vengador, and El Moustachio prominently adorn their pedigrees. By our inspection, we have found that the excellence which is reflected in those marquee names is realized by the quality represented in the Preble Herd.

We recognized this as an opportunity which we couldn't pass up when we considered the numerous requests we receive throughout the year for Full Accoyo offspring from both Elite and Legacy. Hopefully now, these girls combined with the Full Accoyo females already here in place will give us the numbers to satisfy these requests.

For their part Bettsy and Wally will remain in the alpaca business in a less involved way. They have retained a couple of very outstanding males who will be made available for outside breeding services. To line up a breeding with one or more of these spectacular studs you can still reach them at www.accoyo.org. Their new found freedom will allow them to travel more, play more and be with grand children more, all the while staying in touch with their many close alpaca friends. Admittedly, we will miss them and they will miss the babies, but they can always come here for a fix!

Herdsires and Future Herdsires... We have agreed to keep the best of The Sunset Accoyo Males here at Crescent Moon Ranch and make them available for sale. If you have a need for an outstanding Full or Hemi-Accoyo male of impeccable pedigree and quality, please contact us for some details. These boys will be posted on our website in the near future.

To the Prebles, we would like to publicly say, "Thank You". Your diligence to your program is easily seen and we are Honored that you thought highly enough of us to let your many years of hard work eventually end up on "The Moon". We are also most grateful for this opportunity that you have afforded us and it is our intention to continually improve upon what you have started and make you proud.

Very Sincerely,
The Crescent Moon Ranch Family

MORE NEWS

Congratulations and thank you to Sharon Brown and Jim Webb of Virginia Alpaca Farm & Breeding Co., for their purchase of ½ Interest in 4Peruvian Legacy 6016, Crescent Moon's Rayo del Sol and Crescent Moon's Kryptonite!

The ½ Interest in Legacy sold for $750,000, making Legacy's market driven price worth 1.5 million dollars... and therefore the first Million Dollar Alpaca! His record and his excellence are undeniable. He single handedly transformed the Crescent Moon Ranch breeding program, rounded out the Alpacas of Maple Lane breeding program, and made hugely significant contributions to the Snowmass Alpacas breeding program. His progeny includes some of the most visible alpacas in the North American Alpaca industry. Names such as Crescent Moon's Kryptonite, Crescent Moon's Romeo, Crescent Moon's Fiber Optic, Crescent Moon's Pinnacle, Snowmass Legacy Gold, Snowmass Perfection, Snowmass Legacy's Lustroso, Snowmass Millennium and many, many others. His name, on any certificate, adds immediate value and recognition, and his name is now one of LEGEND.

The ½ Interest paid for Crescent Moon's Rayo del Sol was $175,000, making him the highest priced grey alpaca sold to date! Rayo experienced an amazing individual career in the show ring, including a Futurity Color Championship, two AOBA National Color Championships (2001 and 2002) and 5 additional Color Championships. With only 67 cria on the ground at this time (February 2006), his cria have reaffirmed his excellence and confirmed his potency with an abundance of red and blue and close to 40 Banners in just 2½ years of breeding - and at the most prominent shows in the country!

Crescent Moon's Kryptonite's ½ Interest sold for $175,000 as well, making Kryptonite second in line as the highest priced black alpaca ever sold! Kryptonite's individual show record also is exceptional. He too is a National Champion in 2003 and in 2002 was the Futurity Reserve Black Male Champion. He won 6 additional Championships under many different judges and spanning 3 spring show seasons. We have only a few of his cria on the ground at this time, but we are very excited by what we see!

We had unbelievable success with our Country Store on San Juan Island. Our new Alpaca Boutique Store will be opening very soon in Central Oregon. Our first line of business was preparing the ranch for alpacas and that was where our energies were directed. Now stay tuned for updates on our Alpaca Boutique and its grand opening in the not too distant future!

We've been very busy in the show circuit and you can see many of our "wins" on our Show page. Don't forget to check our News page for the latest announcements!

With all that we're doing, sometimes we're behind on photos. Please email us for photos of any alpaca that you are interested in that doesn't have photos online, and we'll email you digitals ASAP!

Use your mouse to take a journey into our world, and don't forget to drop us an email and introduce yourself along the way. Or arrange a visit and choose your new alpacas in person!
